Like many people, I will see tons of crafty ideas I want to try out but inevitably most are never even started. I think I broke that cycle today!

This year, the kids and I procrastinated buying our usual advent calender from the grocery store. We usually wound up with an unexciting but somewhat satisfying cardboard version with little doors containing molded chocolates that the kids would share every day. Last night I happened across Jan's (Daisy Janie) blog entry with her advent calender idea. See it here. I decided to give it a go three days into December. So the kids missed out on a few surprises...I think this will make up for it. This is what I came up with this morning. My son helped cut out the tags and tape the packets. Each day, they will pull off a packet of their choice and get a little something. For anyone living in Eugene, I bought the greatest little somethings at Down To Earth. For those living nowhere near here, it is a garden/kitchen/housewares/gift/local unique everything store. Worth a stop if you visit. It is not too late to make your own version. I was thinking you could even write little notes in place of gifts. The fun is in the making and sharing.

Also arriving in September is Maman. These designs come from Cloud9 co-owner Michelle Engel Bencsko's beloved grandmother, Anne-Marie Murphy. She was an illustrator around the time of WWII in Belgium and France. These will also be on the high thread count base cloth at $16.50/yd.

Birch Cars Add The Perfect Touch

I love seeing how you use your fabric! This photo came from a customer who obviously had a vision. Just a small amount of the Birch Cars works wonders in this room. Love the big white board. I have a small one in my studio to keep track of orders, reminders, etc. It is irresistible to my kids! They love drawing on it. I cannot bring myself to erase some of my daughters' incredible creations so I am left with half a board! A huge one like this would be great.

It is not uncommon for a print to sell out. It is however uncommon to miss it so much! A couple of months ago, I restocked some of the patterns from Monaluna's Marin and Anika. Among that shipment was the very last bolt of Foxy Foxes (actually Foxy, but I have been calling it Foxes this entire time!). That very last bolt has just sold out. It is not being reprinted. Although this pattern will still be found with other retailers, I am so sorry I will not be offering any more.

Welcoming an Old Friend Back

I just placed an order for the majority of the Monaluna Monaco collection in Teal. This is an older collection and I have been sold out of most patterns for quite a while. I still have teal scooters and circles in teal and pink. I will be receiving teal flowerbed, stripes, birds, double dot in teal, green and teal, orange starburst and pink stripe in about a week.

Also in transit right now is the Avalon collection from Birch. Should be here within a few days. Can't wait to see this one in person!

The last of my Saffron Craig has arrived. This is her newest collection direct from Australia. I will be listing it within a day or so. I also completed the Owl collection with some fabulous nesting owls and coordinating tree prints. I did find time to make a reversible carry all with the incredible forest elements collection. The handles are made from a hemp/cotton blend I had on hand. I really like the end result.

Nature Walk Dress

I could not decide which of the Cloud9 Nature Walk patterns I wanted to use, so I chose a few. This little dress turned out beautifully. It has been a while since I have made something that requires more concentration than sewing a straight line...I am building up to opening a new storefront on etsy for organic kids wear. My old (and still existing) shop on etsy features felted sweaters, simple little hats and such. It has all but been taken over by my reusable produce bags. Feel free to see those at ChowChow. A play on my last name, not the dog! Anyway, more work ahead.

Valentine Treats

My daughter saw a picture of some little sachets in a magazine that she wanted to replicate for her entire class of 28! Not too unwillingly, I agreed. This was really fun to do together. Using scraps of fabric, bulgar (cheaper than rice in bulk) and lavender, we created these little sachets. The larger, pinked squares are for her teacher, teacher aid and class helper. I decided to use bulgar as a filler instead of all lavender. Rice or flax seed would work as well. I think they turned out very nicely and my daughter learned a little about mass production! I would not have minded receiving something like this as a child. Keep it on a bedside table for a relaxing effect or tuck it in a drawer for sweetly scented clothes.

Oregon Coast and Saffron Craig

Two fun things happened today. A field trip with my son's class to the coast and my fabric from Saffron Craig arrived. We live about an hour from the coast. It is a wondrous place. For anyone who has not visited, it has dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches. Some of the most picturesque lighthouses in the country and the drive along Hwy 101 is one of my favorites. Along with that, my fabric from Saffron Craig of Australia arrived. This is the only fabric I carry that is not organic. This was a tough decision for me to branch out from my passion. However, these patterns were so irresistible. They will be for sale within a couple of days. A little spendy! $ 20/yd. Worth it though. Please check Saffron's blog. She is a talented woman. Driving Out Of Town

We took a little drive east of Eugene. There is a metal sculptors' garden that has a very magical quality to it. You can just imagine yourself in a different place all together.

We ended our trip at a hatchery. The dam water was being released and the gush of water downstream was tremendous. A wonderful day.

Melly&Me, Make It Perfect and Sew Little

My shipment of sewing patterns from Australia arrived just yesterday. These are just a few including a wonderful soft cover book from Melly&Me with full size pattern pieces. I will have these up on my website within the next couple of days.

I will also be carrying a limited amount of Saffron Craig fabric soon. This takes forever to reach me by boat! Yes, by boat. Air is an option, but 180 yards of fabric weighs a lot. By boat it is. If you have not seen her designs, click on the blog link to the right or find it here. Australia is rich in creative textile folks. I have only tapped the surface, I'm sure. Very exciting.

Room To Gather

My husband will say I tricked him. Not so. We "finished" our addition and remodel almost a year ago. Not unlike many other stories I have heard, we finished and then have a very long list of minor and not so minor tasks to complete. One of those details was sanding and sealing the fir floors in the existing old bedrooms. As it turns out, I had the brilliant idea of moving our bedroom to the finished music room (which is so amazingly cozy and quiet thanks to wool carpet and soundproofing in the walls). In doing so, we could finish floors in the old bedroom, move my sewing room from next door and finish the floors in the old sewing room. Tricked him into giving me a huge sewing/fabric room and taking away his music room? Nonsense.

It is amazing how much time we all spend in this room with one chair and a child size rocking chair. Pandora Radio (my iPhone has changed my life-yes I said it), some colored pencils and paper, a nerf football and everyone is set. So the keyboards stay in storage a while longer. Sorry, Erik. Truly.

Making Time For Making

I made up a few travel pillows for my couisin's kids. This is something I did several years ago for my own children for a plane ride. The handle makes it so much easier to carry when you have multiple bags, little hands to hold, etc.

Along with the travel pillows, I made this super cute guy. My cousin sent me a picture of a little stuffed dog she saw and wanted for one of her daughters. I set about creating my version and I can not stop looking at it! We had it sitting on a shelf in our house for several days. Everyone just could not get enough of it. Off these go to Alaska. I think this is going to be a great package to open.

Our Christmas was literally perfect. I did not feel compelled to do anything beyond hanging out with family and having a drink once in a while. The kids made a killing. Every year we start out saying, "let's keep it small, let's not go bananas...." We'll try again next year.

Quick and Easy Tutorial From Daisy Janie

Using just a fat quarter, use these for produce or snacks. I have been making reusable produce/bulk bags for quite some time. It just didn't make sense to be bringing home so much plastic in my reusable grocery bags. On the subject of Daisy Janie, Shades of Grey will be out early next year. Looks incredible. Daisy Janie is one of my favorite lines I carry. It is bordering on mid weight which makes it useful for so many projects. I love working with it.

From Monaluna- These are truly inspired patterns. I can't wait to see them in person.

All of the organic cottons I carry come from such talented people who have put so much work and energy into their designs and production. I, for one, so appreciate them bringing organics closer to the mainstream. Organics won't become the norm without people having access and they are much more likely to buy when it is so irresistible.
